Thinking of Buying JBL Speakers? Think Again.
In December 2024, I was gifted a pair of JBL 104 BT Professional Monitors.
A few days ago, I moved my JBLs to set up my new PC and when I went to reconnect the speaker wire, I noted the red side of the terminal had popped out a bit and when I would depress it, the wire wouldn’t stay seated inside.
The item is barely 3 months old, so it’s definitely in warranty. You can see in the image to the right the red terminal is sticking out more than it should.
JBL professional services wrote me back and asked for some simple information, including the receipt.
This item was a gift to me from someone who has since passed away and because of this, I am unable to obtain the receipt. They were purchased from Best Buy.
I explained this to them and heard from Jorge at JBL today and they are refusing to help.
Below is a screenshot of the reply from their rep, Jorge.
“Without the proof of purchase we cannot do a warranty repair, since the warranty is not transferable. “
First, am not trying to transfer the warranty. I received these new in box as a gift. They were purchased from Best Buy.
I get that I can’t provide the receipt, there’s a legit reason for that. And these are a legitimate product from JBL acquired from a legitimate retail store, and the problem at hand is incredibly simple.
This is really bad customer service JBL. Not what I would have expected from a relatively well-regarded audio brand, especially from your Professional division, for monitors and studio equipment.
So, if you are thinking of buying a JBL product, especially one of their Professional products used in Studios – just don’t. If the product fails, even at the most simple of components, they will do everything they can to not help you. Especially if the item was gifted to you.
Do better Harman!
